In an age where carbon fibre manufacture has largely moved to the Far East, the Vertice from London-based Comtat stands out as a custom frame handmade in Italy. Such a machine – made-to-measure to the nearest millimetre and degree – is as much an emotional investment as it is an exchange of cold, hard cash. Luckily, the Comtat Vertice is a superbly composed machine and a fine companion on long days in the saddle. It’s light (with a claimed frame weight just of 820g) and eager to accelerate, with a smooth ride and sharp but predictable handling.
The Comtat Vertice is an understated machine among the heavily-profiled aero machines which dominate the market – and there are no shortage of such bikes in the RCUK100 – and its classic round tubes give it an effortless beauty. Eleven finishes are available and customisation extends to the spec, too, with any number of build options offered by Comtat alongside the frameset.
