Mavic celebrated their 125th birthday in 2014 and to commemorate that landmark launched the Mavic Ksyrium 125 wheelset. Only 6,000 are available, each numbered and with limited edition decals and a single spoke in Mavic’s iconic yellow. The Ksyrium 125 is a descendant of the Ksyrium SLR, sharing the excellent Exalith 2 brake track and showcasing the French firm’s new ‘ISM 4D’ milling process, which removes unnecessary material from the aluminium rim, thereby reducing weight without sacrificing strength.
Whereas the previous incarnation of the process, ‘ISM 3D’, removed material from the inner-spoke surface and sides of the rim, ‘ISM 4D’, which is also used on the 2015 version of the Ksyrium SLR, allows for more material to be removed from the entire rim. The result is a 40g reduction in weight to 1,370g, but perhaps more significantly, gives the rim a more rounded and, crucially, more aerodynamic shape. The Mavic Ksyrium 125 is a wheel-tyre system so comes with Mavic’s redesigned Yksion Pro front and rear-specific tyres.
