Dániel Merényi learnt the frame builder’s art under the watchful eye of Dario Pegoretti during a four-year apprenticeship in the Italian’s workshop. Now the Hungarian builds custom steel frames under his own name and the Burletta is the flagship model. It’s a machine which shows modern steel at its best, combining the old-world aesthetic of a lugged frame with a ride not short on performance.
The Merényi Burletta’s oversized Columbus Zona Niobium tubes provide a solid pedaling platform that ensure it’s a sprightly, fun and lively ride, while the super-thin – just 0.2mm– wall thickness helps keep the weight relatively low for a metal machine. Performance aside, it’s a beautiful bicycle, with Llewelyn Cadenzia lugs designed by Pegoretti and Darren McCulloch, and, in this finish, at least, an intricate paintjob. The Burletta is available as a frameset only or any number of builds through Merényi’s UK stockist, Mosquito Bikes.
