Parlee launched their first aero road frame, the ESX, in November 2013 but, not a company to do things by half measures, it’s a chassis unlike any other you’ll see. The company’s founder, Bob Parlee, designed boats before bikes and the Parlee ESX draws upon the American’s extensive knowledge with a series of aero-influenced tube profiles dubbed Recurve.
The tube profiles adopt a ‘fluted tail’ which is said to boost aerodynamic performance without sacrificing stiffness and, crucially, while maintaining the ride quality on which the Parlee name has been built. Weight hasn’t been ignore either, with a claimed figure of 950g for the frame, while usability was also at the heart of the design philosophy, with clearance for 28mm tyres, and an innovative ‘FlexFit’ top cap which essentially allows the rider to extend the length of the headtube, without resorting to a stack of fork steerer spacers.
