Rapha Climber’s Shoe 2015 Review

The Rapha Climber’s Shoe was first announced at the start of 2014 and is now available. The shoe is the London-based brand’s second collaboration with Giro, following the Grand Tour shoe, and was developed with riding in the mountains – and so low weight and ventilation – at the top of the agenda.

As a result, the Rapha Climber’s Shoe’s upper is made from a lightweight, mesh-backed synthetic leather. The heavily-perforated upper is also designed to allow air to circulate around the shoe, while retaining the strength required to support the foot during out-of-the-saddle efforts. Three Velcro straps with low-profile hook and loop fasteners ensure a simple aesthetic and minimal bulk.

Finally, the top-tier, carbon fibre Easton EC90 SLx2 sole, the same as used on the new Giro Empire shoe, combines low weight and a minimal stack height with plenty of stiffness for maximum efficiency when climbing in the mountains.
