Swiss Side Hadron 625 Wheelset 2015 Review

Swiss Side invested considerable time and effort in the development of their Swiss Side Hadron 625, and it’s possible to feel the benefits of an extensive wind tunnel testing programme on the road in the ability of the wheelset to retain speed on flat and undulating roads. Swiss Side founder Jean-Paul Ballard is an aerodynamicist with the Suaber Formula One team by day and the Hadron 625, which combines an aluminium braking track with a carbon shroud, measures 62.5mm deep in a design which adopts a toroidal profile to improve crosswind stability, and 23mm wide, which in turn allows the tyre to adopt a broad footprint on the road.

A patented freehub mechanism and Sapim’s flagshim CX Ray spokes complete the look, with the former spinning smoothly and making for a satisfying audio accompaniment. A deep-section wheelset like this is never going to be the lightest, but the stiffness of Swiss Side Hadron 625s, which have claimed weight of 1,686g, ensures they respond well to out-of-the-saddle assaults.
