Losing your way
Losing your way
For the most part the beauty of an organised sportive is that you generally don’t have to worry about where you’re going, with course markers and marshals on every corner, not to mention hundreds of other riders on the road to show you the way.
Just follow and you’ll be ok, right? Well, that’s the theory. In practice many sportives offer different courses to cater for varying abilities so if you don’t remain attentive you could find yourself straying on to the ‘epic’ route when you really intended to conquer the standard course.
To avoid losing your way make sure you’re familiar with what signs you should be following – often each course is marked with different coloured signs.
Make a point of attending the rider briefing by the organiser so that you can listen to important route information, including any changes or particular areas of attention that you should be aware of.
Most events now offer a GPS file that can be downloaded to your Garmin for on the bike navigation. Whilst this is an excellent aid don’t forget to keep your head up and eyes on the road at all times.
