Riding the sportive escalator

Five steps to riding an iconic European event

Wiggle New Forest Sportive

Set in the heart of the peaceful and picturesque New Forest National Park this hugely popular sportive attracts 2,000 riders and is the perfect way to work on your endurance without the worry of a punishing series of long ascents to contend with. Although it’s not entirely flat, be prepared for the odd cheeky pitch to keep you on your toes, coming in April at the start of the season makes it a good event to test your level of fitness as you build towards your goal.

With two route options (an 84 mile loop with 900 metres of climbing or a slightly shorter 62 mile route with 690 metres of climbing) these quiet forest roads offer plenty of opportunity to practice riding in a group whilst ducking out of the wind to conserve energy – two essential sportive skills to master.
