Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo – Saturday June 6 to Sunday June 7
The Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo and Chrono promises to bring the first ever, true closed-road gran fondo experience to the UK in June.
Adopting the same formula as the hugely popular events run on the continent, the Tour of Cambridgeshire will include a fully closed-road race, sportive and time trial.
Rolling out of Peterborough, the Gran Fondo will see 10,000 riders tackle the 132km route through the Cambridgeshire – with the race, with seeded groups, running in front.
It will be preceded on the Saturday by a UCI World Cycling Tour event, the Tour of Cambridgeshire Chrono, which is open to all levels with 700 places available.
Cash prizes are available to the male and female winner of each event, with prizes also on offer for the masters age group classifications, and a combined prize for both.
The top 25 per cent in each masters age category will also earn the right to compete at the World Amateur Road Championships time trial in Denmark in September.
Tom Caldwell, from organisers Vericool Sports Management, said: “Until now British riders have had to travel abroad to compete in proper closed road Gran Fondos.
“It’s been a lot of hard work and investment to get to this stage but worth it to have the first events of their kind in the UK.”
