Small British firm Enigma Bikes make bespoke steel and titanium frames and bicycles. All Enigma products are built by hand by a team of British craftsman with decades of knowledge of lightweight bicycle design, and combine old world craftsmanship with cutting edge materials and construction methods. This makes Enigma a true rarity – a British bicycle firm making bicycles in Britain.
From humble beginnings in a converted cow shed a few years ago, Enigma is now based in an 8,000 sq ft workshop near Eastbourne in East Sussex, allowing it to further expand and improve its frame and bike building capacity. The company remains in control of all aspects of the build process – everything is done in-house, including design, selection of tubes, assembly, welding and final finishing.
Enigma frames are made from seamless titanium or the lightest and strongest grades of aerospace-age steel, and offer an elegant alternative to the ubiquitous carbon fibre currently used in most high-end bikes. Models include top of the range road bike the Enigma Excel, built with 6V/4Al Ti, the tougher of the two most popular grades of titanium. Also in the range are a selection of touring bikes and the EGO 29er titanium hardtail.
The company recently also announced the opening of Enigma Paintworks, a state-of-the-art paint shop offering a range of finishes to allow individuality for those who like to stand out from the crowd. The facility can paint frames, forks and components made from all materials including carbon fibre, and is available to all, not just to Enigma owners.
