Bradley Wiggins discharged from hospital

Tour de France champion, Bradley Wiggins, has been discharged from hospital with bruising to his right hand and ribs. 

Bradley Wiggins has been discharged from hospital following an incident involving a car on Wednesday night

Wiggins, 32, was hit by a white Vauxhall Astra Event van outside a BP petrol station in Wrightington, Lancashire, a village close to his home in Ecclestone, last night.

Team Sky’s leader had been riding a mountain bike when the collision occured. Wiggins was taken by ambulance ot the Royal Preston Hospital.

Today, Team Sky confirmed Wiggins’ discharge from hospital and said he had suffered no long-term injuries.

Team Sky’s Dr Richard Freeman said: “Bradley has been discharged from hospital after suffering minor injuries, including bruises to his right hand and ribs, but is expected to make a full and speedy recovery. He is now going to spend the weekend at home convalescing with his family.”

British Cycling has made no further comment on the condition of its head coach, Shane Sutton, since confirming his admission to hospita this morning with bruising and bleeding to the brain following an accident in Manchester.

An earlier statement said Sutton was likely to remain in hospital for the next few days.
