Evans Cycles launch 2014 RideIt! series

More than 60 sportives organised throughout the year

Evans Cycles have revealed an expanded RideIt! Series calendar of sportives for the 2014 season.

More than 60 events have been organised for the coming year, with most events featuring three or four different routes.

Distances are suitable for a range of abilities, from free rides for children and 15-mile events, to the ‘super-sportive’ King of the Downs and King of the Pennines.

RideIt! manager Dean Stacey said; “2013 was a big year for our events, sportives in particular have been very busy and we had a record number of events sell out.

“So for 2014 we’re adding 15 new events to our already busy schedule. There are more events in the south east, plus new locations through the country such as Plymouth and Cheltenham where we’ve recently opened new stores.”

Every route is hand-picked by the organising team and are fully signposted, while High5 feed stations and mechanical support are also provided, as well as tea and cake at the finish.

For those looking for a bigger challenge, the King of the Pennines and King of the Downs have both been rated level five – the toughest ranking on the new British Cycling scale.

The latter, which takes place on June 1, is 115 miles long and offers 9,000ft of climbing on a route covering the Surrey hills, North Downs, Ashdown Forest and Kent.

Meanwhile the Pennines’ ride, on September 7, is 99 miles long but contains 11,000ft of climbing over ascents including Malham Cove, Park Rash and Fleet Moss – Yorkshire’s highest road.

Both event also have shorter routes, which are said to offer the same stunning views but without the punishing distance.

Entries are now open for all events. Evans are offering three for two on entries until January 6 when using the code RIDE342. See the RideIt! website for the full event calendar and to enter.
