Trek have released three all-new adventure bikes, the 520, 720 and 920, designed to battle all terrain and provide a solid platform for anyone who wants to explore on two wheels.
The most ‘road-ready’ of these is the 720 (£1,275), which Trek describe as “the roadie’s touring bike” due to the fact that is uses traditional road bike geometry.
The foundation of the 720 is an ‘Alpha Gold’ aluminium frame which was created with dual goals: keep the weight down, but still provide a solid and reliable platform that’s capable of bearing the burden of not only a rider, but also a fair amount of luggage. With that in mind, Trek have developed a fork-mounted dry bag system that helps to keep the weight low on the bike, meaning stability remains high.
There are also mounts for a rack at the back, which means that the 720 is a bike capable of shouldering a significant amount of luggage. There’s enough clearance for up to 28mm tyres at least, and it’ll fit mudguards with ease.
But even with all that, there’s been no cheaping out on the drivetrain, with 11-speed Shimano 105 shifters, 11-32t cassette and derailleurs paired to TRP HY/RD cable-actuated hydraulic disc brakes.
Other features include Bontrager’s Blendr stem, which has an integrated mount so that bike computers or lights can be mounted directly, rather than having another mount cluttering up your bars, and a set of tubeless ready Bontrager wheels wrapped in Bontrager AW1 Hard-Case Lite 28mm tyres.
The other two bikes in the range are the 520 (£950), a traditional steel-framed touring bike, designed to carry as much gear as possible while retaining maximum reliability and the 920 (£1,375) a heavy-duty off-road ready tourer designed to take you where the previous two bikes can’t. See both bikes in the gallery below.
