Advertising your secondhand gear on RCUK is completely free, here’s our guide to using the section to sell your stuff – or look out for a great bargain. Or if you know it all already go straight to the second hand section.
|
You can post up photos of whatever you’re selling. When you upload a photo it will be resized automatically for display (at 125 pixels wide) on the list of ads page. Your photo will be displayed at 200 pixels wide on your ad page, with a link below for browsers to see the full-size image. Adding photos will be free for a limited introductory period, after which there may be a small charge for attaching a photo to your ad. NB: We’ll take a dim view of anyone trying to abuse photo-submission to post up offensive images and they may well lose member privileges. If you see an offensive image or ad then use the ‘report this ad to the moderator’ function. |
Linking with the member review system: |
Your ads in the secondhand section can now be linked to member reviews if we have the item you’re selling in the system. This means that people browsing the review section can see at a glance whether someone is selling a particular product on RoadCyclingUK secondhand. You can also click on the link in the member review section to sell a product and it will take you to the ad submission form with the category and product pre-filled. Also, if an item for sale is linked to the review system and we have more info or member reviews of it, there’ll be a link to them below the ad on the full advert page. Please note: in order to link with the user review system you must select your product using the links on the form. |
|
When posting a new ad, be sure to select the product using the link given if you want your ad to be linked to the review system. If you can’t find your exact product then we don’t have it in our review system, possibly because it’s too old. If this is the case, or if you don’t want to link your ad to the review system, just skip the product selection step and type the name of the product directly into the box provided. Use the short description to get people interested and then the full description for full details, including the condition, whether postage and packing is included in the price and so on. The form is prefilled with the contact details you gave when you joined the site. You can change these if they aren’t correct or you don’t want them to display, but you need to give at least either a contact telephone number or email address. The email address you give is not displayed on the ad, potential buyers send an email to the address you give through the site. |
Re-enabling your advert: |
Your secondhand adverts stay live for two weeks, then are automatically disabled to keep the ads fresh. But these adverts remain on the system until you yourself delete them and you can easily re-enable them on your ‘My ads’ page if you still haven’t managed to flog it. Any disabled ads are highlighted in red with a link to renable the advert. Disabled ads may be periodically deleted from the database to keep it clean. |
Editing / deleting your ads: |
You can edit or delete your ads either using the ‘My ads’ page, or following the link below your ad wherever it is displayed on the site.
When you edit your ad you are presented with exactly the same form you used to submit the ad, once you have edited the details be sure to click the ‘continue’ button to submit the changes. When you click the ‘delete ad’ link, there’s a confirmation page to cut down on accidental deletions. |
Searching: |
You can now search ads by any (or a combination) of brand, keyword, category and minimum and maximum price.
You can make these searches as specific or general as you like. If you’re just searching for a wheel set then select keyword: wheel from the quick search, or select wheels from the list of categories. If you just want to browse through all the ads then select the ‘view all ads’ link at the top of the category search. |
Forum threads relating to an ad: |
At the bottom of the full advert page there is a link to start a discussion about an ad. This means that people interested in buying can ask questions publicly. It also potentially reduces the number of similar email enquiries that the seller has to answer.
Please note, you can only post threads relating to an actual ad in this forum. Also, to help prevent the same questions being posed repeatedly, there can be only one thread posted per ad. |
Sorting the ads: |
Search results are displayed by the most recent but you can sort (ascending and descending) through your search results or all the ads in the system by product name, price and date posted. |
Member details: |
The full advert page now has a link to the member page of the seller, so that potential buyers can get some sort of feel for how active they are as a community member. For privacy reasons first contact emails to sellers are sent through the site. |
Location: |
There’s now a city field to help you quickly dismiss ads that are too far away. |
Report to moderator: |
If you find an unsuitable ad, or an ad with an unsuitable photo, you can report the ad to the moderator for editing. |
