Picking the right kit in summer is a massive part of keeping cool
So the name of this buyer’s guide might be a little misleading. It’s called ‘lightweight kit’ but that doesn’t specifically mean that if you put it on the scales it’ll produce a suitably low number.
What we actually mean is that this kit will help to keep you cool and comfortable when the temperatures begin to climb. An optimistic spend, perhaps, given the way the summer hasn’t exactly showered us with weather riches so far this year… but it’ll come, particularly if you have a trip planned to the Alps or similar.
Admittedly, those two goals aren’t exactly diametrically opposed. Kit that’s breathable and cool tends to be rather light in weight terms, too, because things like mesh are extremely lightweight just from the way they’re constructed.
Anyway, the point is that kit selection is a vital part of keeping yourself cool and comfortable on the bike when the temperatures soar and you’re working hard. Here’s our guide to the things to look out for if you’re after summer bike kit.
