Emma Pooley shortlisted for Sunday Times award

Emma Pooley has enjoyed a fine 2010

Emma Pooley has been named on the shortlist for 2010 Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a stellar year, becoming the first Brit to win the Tour de L’Aude, the premier event in the women’s stage race calendar.

Pooley then upgraded her 2008 Olympic time trial silver medal to World Championship gold in Melbourne in September.

The Cervelo rider follows in the footsteps of Olympic sprint champion Victoria Pendleton and Olympic road race gold medallist Nicole Cooke, who both went on to win the award in 2007 and 2008 respectively.

Pooley goes head-to-head with five other sportswomen in a public vote, with European heptathlon champion Jess Ennis and Olympic skeleton gold medallist Amy Williams among the favourites.

The winner will be announced in the Sunday Times on November 28, along with the winners of the Team of the Year, the Young Sportswoman of the Year and the Disabled Sportswoman of the Year. The winners will then be honoured at a reception at the British Olympic Association HQ on Monday November 22.
