Pro bike: Olympic champion Elia Viviani’s custom Team Sky Pinarello Maat track bike

Omnium gold medallist shows off eye-catching custom Pinarello at Revolution

Olympic omnium champion Elia Viviani (Team Sky) was among the star attractions at the inaugural Revolution Champions League, which saw seven WorldTour teams competing on the track alongside the top domestic teams from the Revolution UK Championship.

Viviani paired up with London 2012 team pursuit gold medallist Peter Kennaugh for the opening round in Manchester, ensuring Team Sky had plenty of track pedigree on show at the National Cycling Centre.

And Viviani was hard to miss out on the track, thanks to the stunning custom Pinarello Maat track bike he was riding for the three sessions.

The metallic blue aero frame had no shortage of gold touches, while a gold helmet and gold shoes ensured the Italian’s Rio 2016 achievements, where he beat Britain’s Mark Cavendish to omnium gold, did not go unnoticed.

And despite being in the middle of the off-season for the road teams on show, Viviani and Kennaugh fared best of the WorldTour riders in Manchester, finishing fourth with 102 points between them.

Team-mates Ian Stannard and Andy Fenn took over for the final round in London as Team Sky went on to finish the inaugural competition in eighth place, with Ed Clancy and Jon Mould securing top spot for JLT-Condor.

Olympic omnium champion Elia Viviani rode a custom Pinarello Maat at Revolution, with an eye-catching metallic blue colourway and no shortage of gold touches to celebrate his Rio 2016 success, where Viviani beat Britain's Mark Cavendish to win the omnium.
Pinarello supply bikes to both Team Sky and the Italian national track ream and the Maat 60.1 was the bike Viviani rode to Olympic gold. Underneath the striking colourway, the Maat 60.1 is made from Pinarello's 60HM1K carbon blend and reinforced with 'nanoalloy' technology, said to increase the strength of the frame.
Besides the colour, the Maat's most distinctive features are the ribs in the seatstays, chainstays and fork. They are said to improve the strength and rigidity of the frame, in order to withstand the forces put through the bike by track riders.
The downtube, which features the Pinarello name emblazoned in gold on the side, is a trapezoid shape - which boosts both the aero properties and stiffness of the bike.
Gold decals on the toptube and a small Brazilian flag are a reminder of Viviani's omnium win. Viviani was the only Italian to win a medal on the track at Rio, though Elisa Longo Borghini claimed bronze on the road.
Viviani's one-piece cockpit features a gold roundel, which has previously featured on London 2012 time trial winner Sir Bradley Wiggins' custom Pinarello bike. The date of the omnium (14/15 August) and Viviani's winning points tally (207) are also displayed in gold.
The handlebar also comes from Pinarello and, as well as being the stiffest 'bar they do, has a sprint-specific shape.
The gold touches extend to the chain too. Viviani used a Shimano Dura-Ace track chainset in Manchester but shunned the Japanese firm's pedals for Speedplay.
Viviani's wheels of choice in Manchester were a PRO 5-Spoke 3K Twill carbon wheel, with Dura-Ace 7600 track hub, at the front...
...and the accompanying disc wheel at the rear. Both were shod with Continental Podium TT Pro Ltd tubular tyres.
The Pinarello Maat 60.1 is a product of the Pinarello Lab, the Italian firm's top development team, and was designed to 'push the limits the way the Bolide time trial frame did on the road'.
The gold theme continues with Viviani's Fizik Antares 00 saddle - again, something we've seen before on Sir Bradley Wiggins' bikes.
Viviani and team-mate Peter Kennaugh led Team Sky to fourth place after the inaugural Champions League round in Manchester, but the British WorldTour team eventually finished eighth after Ian Stannard and Andy Fenn took over for the London round
And here's how it usually looks... Manxman Peter Kennaugh said his Pinarello Maat 60.1 was the first new track bike he'd been given since riding in the British Cycling academy but, unsurprisingly, it was Viviani's eye-catching machine which attracted the most attention on the night.
