The Continental Grand Prix TT clincher tyre ridden by Germany’s Tony Martin to World Championship time trial gold will be given its UK launch at this week’s Cycle Show.

Challenging the modern tradition that professional testers ride tubs, Martin blew away the field to clock 53:43.85 hours over the 46.4km course in Copenhagen, beating silver medallist Bradley Wiggins by 1:15.83 minutes.
The Grand Prix TT will be showcased on Continental’s stand (G63) at the Cycle Show, which opens to the public on Friday at the NEC in Birmingham.
The tyre boasts the latest evolution of the patented Black Chili compound and features a 300TPI nylon case and Vectran anti-puncture breaker. It’s based on the Grand Prix RS, developed in 2010 by Ironman world record holder Chrissie Wellington.
Other features include a slick central running strip for straight-line speed, while rougher shoulder tread helps cope with gritty roundabouts and U-turns in TT events.
The Grand Prix TT, which weighs just 180g for a 23mm tyre, will go on sale in the UK in January 2012 on a limited production run – and they’re going to fly off the shelves.

Meanwhile, the Continental Competition 22mm tubular, as ridden by Mark Cavendish to world road race gold, will also be on display as part of the German company’s 2012 range.
A new cyclo-cross clincher, the CycloX-King, will make its debut at the show as a 32mm mud option, in the RS format that uses the Black Chili compound, which also features on the Grand Prix Classic 700×23 race tyre.
This uses a tread design pattern and brown sidewall colour scheme from 1982, but with all the modern technologies beneath. A new line of clothing will also be on display.
