Saddle packs come in all shapes and sizes – er, no they don’t; mostly they are blobby-shaped and about the size of a pouch big enough to take a couple of inner tubes, a multi tool and some tyre levers – give or take.
Construction materials, now; that’s where the small Saddle Dog, which at a capacity of 1l is indeed about the size of a pouch big enough to take a couple of inner tubes, a multi tool and some tyre levers, mainly differs from most of the competition. The fabric is a heavyweight waxed cotton canvas with a soft, pliable, pleasing feel and, according to Knog, a waterproof finish. Given the opening in the top for the retention strap, we’ll come back on that one, but the water-resistant zipper says the bag means business.
Talking of the strap… It goes into the pouch through a couple of slots and has a quick-fastening cam buckle on the inside, which, while taking up storage space, keeps appearance neat. An elastic cord loops around the seatpost and attaches to a hook.
Colours are grey, khaki and camo with contrast piping; the grey is perhaps the best match for a lightweight road bike but the choice is there.
