An independent review will examine the relationship between the British Olympic track team and Team Sky, the new British-based cycling team.

Ordered by British Cycling and UK Sport and to be carried out by global consultancy firm Deloitte, the review will set out to determine if targets are being met as Britain attempts to build on cycling success at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

UK Sport is investing over £26m in British Cycling’s elite programme ahead of the 2012 Olympics, which will be held in London. Team Sky is backed by multinational broadcasting giant BSkyB who are investing over £30m in the squad with the specific aim of producing a British Tour de France winner by 2014.

UK sports head of communications Russell Langley told the Guardian newspaper; “The review is not being done from a negative angle but to ensure that both programmes are working well.”
