Launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) currently being held in Las Vegas, Sanyo has entered the bicycle market with a brand new electric bike.
The funky named eneloop is an electric hybrid bicycle which boasts a “loop charge function” which both generates electricity and charges the battery while in use. It uses a two-wheel drive layout, the front being powered by the electric motor and the rear by the cyclist.
It’s on hills that electric bikes can make a real difference, and the “power up” mode on the eneloop incorporates SANYO’s proprietary ‘smooth assistance control’ aid which is intended to provide better balancing when starting off.
“Sanyo is demonstrating a real commitment to finding innovative solutions for sustainable transportation alternatives with the ‘eneloop bike’ because it provides riders an opportunity to ride longer distances without the rider having to increase his or her endurance,” says Irene Stillings, executive director of the California Center for Sustainable Energy. “We’re thrilled to have the bike at Street Smart San Diego where all types of alternative transportation that reduce fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions are on display.”
