Tired of sickly sweet energy gels? Fancy something a little more savoury?
Sponser, the Swiss nutrition brand, have added a salty flavoured gel to their range.
The gel is the first of its kind in the UK, the brand claims, and will feature alongside the Liquid Energy Gel in the company’s range.
The salty gel will come in a 40 gram sachet continuing “slow and fast burning carbohydrate energy sources”, with a bias towards slow burn for endurance efforts.
A Sponser spokesman said: “The slightly salty taste is a change from the conventional sweet energy gels on the market, and provides a new option for riders.”
It contains a mix of isomalulose and barley fibres, which Sponoser say contain beta-glucans to prevent a rapid sugar “spike”. The product is free from lactose, acid, colours and sweeteners, the company claims.
It offers less energy than Sponser’s glucose-based Liquid Energy Gel (984kJ per 100g against 275kJ).
Sponser’s athletes include tennis player, Maria Sharapova, and Belgian-based British cyclist, Emma Trott (Dolmans-Boels), sister to Team GB’s Laura.
