US cyclist Bob Maddox has built a twin-engine bicycle and tested it up to speeds of 73mph, Wired.com reports.
This isn’t Bob’s first foray into jet propelled bicycles, last year he strapped jet engine to a standard bicycle and ripped off down the road at 50mph, but his latest contraption tops that by quite a long way.
His latest design uses a dual-exhaust pulse jet engine and on a deserted back roads powered Bob to a corking 73mph. He certainly wasn’t wearing Lycra for his speed attempt however, instead donning some leathers for the test.
“This bike has two [engines], although it is really one engine with two tail pipes,” Maddox said. “I stacked two 60-pound thrust engines and opened a hole between the combustion chambers and that makes them cycle as one.” The new engine also has a push-button starter and throttle.
