The Tour de France will head to London’s Regent Street on 7 July to 1 August as critically acclaimed theatre company theatredelicatessen’s Pedal Pusher show goes live.
Pedal Pusher follows three cyclists – Jan Ullrich, Marco Pantani and Lance Armstrong – through the five years that changed sporting history forever. From Jan Ullrich winning the Tour de France in 1998, through the near-collapse of the Tour de France in 1999, to the dominance of Armstrong in 2000 and beyond.
By interweaving the biographical stories with recreations of the Tour de France onstage, the play tells the difficult but up-lifting story of their lives through excitement and energy of the race itself.
Roland Smith, director of Pedal Pusher, says: “We use interviews, archive footage and news reports to try and capture the excitement, intrigue and danger of the race. From the passion and heroism, to the deceit and tragedy, we want to tell the full story of what it takes to be a champion. And with Lance Armstrong returning from retirement this year, there is no better time to stage this play.”
Pedal Pusher will be staged as part of theatredelicatessen’s residency at the derelict Cavendish Gate Building, 295 Regent Street, which has been made possible through the support of The Property Merchant Group (PMG) – an innovative partnership between the business and cultural sectors.
