Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins is the headline name on the Tour of Britain’s provisional start list.
The provisional start list contains stage winners from all three Grand Tours, including seven Tour de France stage winners with 31 victories to their name, and 23 of them falling to world road race champion Mark Cavendish.
Wiggins, one of five Olympic medallists to ride the race, and Cavendish are just two of 23 British riders on the start list.
Brits Jeremy Hunt and Luke Rowe, Austrian Bernhard Eisel and German Christian Knees complete Team Sky’s five-man line-up.
The list also contains four Tour de France jersey winners in Wiggins (2012 yellow jersey), Cavendish (2011 green jersey), Euskaltel-Euskadi’s Samuel Sanchez (2011 King of the Mountains) and Liquigas-Cannondale’s Ivan Basso (2002 best young rider)
Seven teams from this year’s Tour de France will line-up for the Tour of Britain, while Orica-GreenEDGE, Liquigas-Cannondale, Saur Sojasun and Team UK Youth will all make their debuts in the race.
The eight-stage Tour of Britain starts in Ipswich, Suffolk, on Sunday September 9 and finishes in Guildford, Surrey, on Sunday September 16.
The provisional start list will be updated daily on the Tour of Britain website with any team changes. The full and final list published at approximately 19.00 on Saturday September 8.
