Super Sarah makes it 10 Parlaympic gold medals with time trial triumph

Sarah Storey has won the 10th Paralympic gold medal of her career with victory in the women’s C5 16-kilometre time trial.

The 34-year-old, who had already won two gold medals on the track at this Games, won in a time of 22.40.

She will now attempt to better Tanni Grey-Thompson’s record of 11 Paralympic gold medals by winning tomorrow’s road race.

She said: “It’s just amazing to get around the circuit so quick. I’m just so chuffed. I went into Beijing as a swimmer on a bike, almost a fish out of water.

“My body shape’s changed a huge amount since then and now I’m firmly a cyclist. To think I’ve done what I did in swimming, now on a bike, it’s not sunk in at all. I’m not sure it ever will.”

Sarah Storey is one half of the most decorated couple in British sport. Husband, Barney, a pilot for track tandem partner, Neil Fachie, has won two golds at London 2012.
