The Anubi is the latest helmet from Italian manufacturer LAS, who have a penchant for distinctive design, following the Squalo tested in 2009.
And it was the design that struck us when we first set eyes on the Anubi at the Core Bike trade show, with a plastic ridge running up the centre which sets it apart from most other lids.
The large (57-63cm) Anubi tested weighs a claimed 310g, with the small version tipping the scales at 260g. So it’s not the lightest on the market, particularly if you’re obsessed with saving weight, but sits pretty for the price (£99.99).
Adjustment is a breeze, with LAS’ Cat-Eyes Evo 3D fitting system – an easy-to-access dial on the rear of the helmet. All in all, there’s a 59mm range for vertical and horizontal adjustment, meaning you’re more than likely find a comfy fit.
There are 25 airflow vents, enough to keep your head adequately cool, and the lid comes with two sets of inner pads for winter (with mesh to cover the air vents) and summer (lightweight) – a neat touch we thought, ensuring the helmet is up to the job year-round. Also in the box is a removable protective visor and helmet bag.
Crucially, the Anubi, available in the UK through Chicken Cycle Kit, is very comfortable to wear, and the soft and well-padded chin guard does an excellent job, particular through the winter and on chilly mornings, when previous straps have scratched against the skin.
So if the design is for you, then the LAS Anubi ticks all the other boxes. Comfortable, well vented and easy to adjust.
