Riders who fancy tackling the cobbles of Dorset’s iconic Gold Hill will be offered another chance to do so next April.
If you fancy following in the wheel tracks of the star of Ridley Scott’s 1973 Hovis commercial, or perhaps those of double Olympic gold medalist, Victoria Pendleton, the new ‘face’ of the bakery, mark Sunday April 7 2013 in your diary.
RoadCyclingUK’s partner, Southern Sportive, will again host The Joker, an event in which riders can gamble with options that will shorten their route but which may lead to unforeseen challenges.
The biggest, and best-known, of these challenges is Gold Hill, the 1:4 cobbled climb in the centre of the pretty Dorset town of Shaftesbury. There’s a cafe at the top for those who find themselves in need of sudden refreshment!
The ride starts at Salisbury Racecourse, taking in the best of Wiltshire’s countryside.
It later crosses the border into Dorset and taking riders up another of the county’s iconic ascents: Zig Zag Hill.
Two routes are offered: a full course of between 100km and 150km, or a shortened route of between 50km and 80km.
Entry costs £25 for the shorter route, and £27 for the full route.
