The new PRO customisable saddle that we previewed in August, and for which we were measured at Eurobike in early September, has arrived.
To recap: PRO offer three saddle shapes, each appropriate to a riding style. The Falcon is recommended for ‘flyers’ who retain a stable position in the saddle; the Turnix for ‘workers’ who shift around, and the curved Griffon for ‘neutral’ riders who consider themselves somewhere between the two.
Having selected a shape, the potential purchaser proceeds to their local dealer, there to park their posterior on a special cube. The cube deforms around the ‘sit’ bones. Helpful staff will measure the distance between the deformation, allowing the customer to continue with their online order by choosing a carbon or Ti rail, and the colour.
All that remains then is to print off the order sheet, present it to the dealer, who will process the order with PRO. If you’re not happy with the results, there’s a 30-day, money back guarantee.
My saddle arrived recently, boxed in the sort of simple, perfectly functional packaging that you might expect from the brand and its owner (Shimano). Two Velcro tabs seal the box, presumably for ease of return should you choose the money back option.
As one not inclined to shift around in the saddle, I chose the Falcon, and opted for the carbon rail. It’s 180mm long, and, in accordance with my measurement at Eurobike, 142mm wide. It tipped the RCUK scale at 165 grams.
I haven’t yet decided on which machine it should be deployed. The RCUK winter bike build may become its final destination, but the colour is a poor match for the season. After the completion of an initial test, it may yet return to its smartly designed box and return to service in spring. Watch this space.
