Sir Chris Hoy back in training after ‘severe stomach virus’

Sir Chris Hoy is back in training after being hospitalised with a severe stomach virus.

Sir Chris Hoy won team sprint and keirin gold at London 2012

The six-time Olympic gold medallist was struck down by the virus while on a Great Britain training camp in Perth, Australia, and spent 24 hours in hospital.

“I’m glad to be getting better and almost feel back to normal now after a pretty grim few days,” said Hoy, who is in the process of deciding whether to continue racing until the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“It’s always frustrating when you’re on a training camp and you can’t train if you’re injured or unwell.

“This is the first block of serious training I’ve done since the Games, but it could’ve happened at a far worse stage of the season though so it’s not too much of a problem.”

Hoy, who claimed double gold at London 2012, winning the team sprint with Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes before triumphing in the keirin, will return to competitive action at the Rotterdam Six Day track meeting on January 3-8.

“It’ll be good to get a solid couple of weeks training in before Christmas, and I’m really looking forward to racing in the first week of January in Rotterdam.”
