For the first time in the seven-year history of the IG London Nocturne, organisers expected the women’s race to be a bigger attraction than the men’s.
The thousands of fans flocked to historic Smithfield Market to witness the return to London of Great Britain’s golden trio of Laura Trott, Dani King, and Joanna Rowsell, weren’t disappointed.
The trio won gold in the women’s team pursuit at the London Olympic Games last year, and rolled out last Saturday (June 8) in the colours of Wiggle Honda.
Trott, a double Olympic champion after winning the women’s omnium as well as the team pursuit, read the script and sprinted to victory ahead of former national junior road race champion, Hannnah Barnes.
The IG Nocturne is RoadCyclingUK’s home event, and we caught up with Trott after the race to get her thoughts on a triumphant return to the capital.
