With the clocks due to fall back this weekend, it seemed an apt time to take a look at another front light option to keep you riding through the murk.
The Echo Torch Pro from Korean company LUU is a self-contained front light with a single Cree LED, powered by a Lithium ION battery from Samsung’s new range.
It has an aluminium body and a resin bar mount. Initial impressions are of a small, neat unit that shouldn’t take up too much room on the handlebars. It’s 98mm long, 30mm in diameter, and weighs just 160 grams, including the bar mount.
The Echo Torch Pro has four solid beam settings. The high setting is claimed to put out 600 lumens for two hours, or 300 lumens for four hours from the medium. LUU are claiming an eight-hour run time for the lowest setting, an output of 150 lumens. There are three flashing modes too, which have a run time of up to 20 hours.
Each mode is accessed with a small rubber button on top of the light. Charging is achieved via a small port on its side, which is protected with a small rubber bung. Using the supplied wall-mounted charger, a full charge should take five hours.
The Echo Torch Pro can be mounted on the helmet with a strap mount, but this is not included. The bar mount is secured by an Allen bolt rather than a quick release lever, but the light removes easily from the mount to be carried with you, should you need to leave your bike (perish the thought!). Lastly, it’s supplied with a natty fabric case, ideal for travelling, and removing any excuse for losing the charger.
