UCI Track World Cup 2013/14: round two – five observations

Records tumble in Mexico while Great Britain's men's sprint team return to form

The world’s sprint kings and queens took full advantage of the high altitude in Aguascalientes, Mexico, as world records tumbled at the second round of the UCI Track World Cup.

Frenchman Francois Pervis, German sprint superstar Kristina Vogel and her compatriot Rene Enders all launched themselves to two world records apiece – the latter two including team sprint efforts – while Australia’s Anna Meares and Great Britain’s all-conquering women’s team pursuit team took chunks out of their own benchmarks, too.

Germany once again ruled the roost overall in the sprint disciplines, while Great Britain and Australia also returned home from Mexico with impressive medal hauls.

With two of this season’s three events now completed, read our five observations over the following pages as February’s World Championships in Cali, Colombia, loom ever closer.
