Great Britain will send a 17-strong squad to the 2014 UCI Track World Championships in Cali, Colombia, British Cycling has confirmed.
The squad, which includes five riders defending their rainbow jerseys, will bid to follow up a successful World Cup campaign at the Championships, which will be held from February 26 to March 2.
And performance director Sir Dave Brailsford hopes the team can make a big statement in Cali with Olympic qualification soon on the agenda.
He said: “I’m pleased with the results we’ve had at world cup level this season, both from the established riders and the younger ones breaking through, and I think we can go into the world championships with confidence this year.
“With qualification for Rio 2016 expected to begin this year, this world championships will allow us to lay down a marker to see where we are at against the best in the world and assess what work needs to be done.”
Current world team pursuit champions Laura Trott, Dani King and Elinor Barker are joined, as expected, by Olympic champion Joanna Rowsell and World Championship debutant Katie Archibald in the women’s endurance squad.
Welsh rider Becky James, a double world champion in 2013, leads a strong women’s sprint squad meanwhile, with Jess Varnish and Victoria Williamson also selected.
Jason Kenny will lead their male counterparts alongside Matt Crampton, Kian Emadi and Phil Hindes.
Finally Olympic champions Steven Burke and Ed Clancy are joined in the men’s endurance squad by Jon Dibben and young Welshmen Owain Doull and Sam Harrison.
There is no place however for Andy Tennant, with the Madison-Genesis rider having only competed at one Track World Cup meet.
