Pursuit Gold for England

Great ride from the experienced quartet of Steve Cummings, Chris Newton, Rob Hayles and Paul Manning. After such a great 1-2-3 in the individual event it was hard to see anyone getting close to the squad that has already won gold at World Championships for Great Britain.

This was a rematch of the final four years ago in Manchester, when Australia got the better of the home nation. However this time the English foursome had almost caught the Australian team and were celebrating long before they crossed the line on the final lap. They had silenced the usually noisy and partisan Australian crowd, just after the first five laps as they began to pull away from the younger Australian squad.

New Zealand beat Malaysia for the Bronze medal.
