We’ve brought you a low down of our female medal hopefuls for this week’s Commonwealth Games. And now for the men…

We have some promising talent across the disciplines but here’s just a few of our GB boys to look out for on the track.

Our 4k team pursuit track team are reportedly looking hopeful to break the current British record on Saturday. Britain’s Steve Cummings will lead out Chris Newton, Paul Manning and Rob Hayles. The boys achieved silver in Manchester four years ago and we only hope they can better that with a gold medal in Melbourne this time round.

We hold high hopes for Junior World medallist Ross Sander (Wales) who will look for his first major result as a senior in this year’s Commonwealths. After he won a silver medal in the Team Pursuit at the Junior World Track Championships he suffered a crash which resulted in a broken wrist. It seems he has made a good recovery and we wish him every success at the Games this week.

Olympic champion Jason Queally, winner of a gold and silver at Sydney in the kilo and team sprint, has, at 35, a lot of experience going into the Commonwealths. He’ll certainly be one to watch out for with his recently recaptured form.

Former BMX champ Jamie Staff has a number of World titles under his belt and we can expect to see more world class performances from the team sprinter this week. By all accounts, he’s on good form and we hope his success extends to a medal for England.

We wish our home boy Chris Hoy the best of luck as he prepares to defend his Commonwealth title. We look forward to some storming sprint action from the great Scot.

And we certainly can’t underestimate the talent among our team of young riders. World Madison Champion Mark Cavendish is preparing for his first games, former Great Britain Under 23 Academy rider, Matt Brammeier (Wales) is entered for the Points and Scratch races and young sprinter Matthew Crampton looks forward to the experience of The Games.

Of course we haven’t covered all of the GB riders, and there are plenty more medal hopefuls among them including Downing, Dangerfield, Stannard and Tennant to name a few…look out for updates in the coming week.
