Easily the biggest challenge to us cyclists is the weather, and what it throws our way to dampen our enthusiasm. And dampen is about accurate, the way the weather has been these past few weeks.
To say it’s been challenging to get out on the bike when the rain is hammering against the window relentlessly would be an understatement. It’s only the beginning of December and we’ve been assailed with heavy rain, strong gale force winds and plummeting temperatures.
It tests your mental reserves to the limit, that’s for sure, but it also makes you appreciate those blue sky days with the sun shining brightly with even more enthusiasm. And with the weather forecasters predicting a somewhat drier and more stable window of weather for the next week or so, it’s time to make the most of it before the next spell of wet weather.
And for those of us who have been heading out on the bike when it might otherwise be eminently more sensible to stay indoors these past few weeks, can enjoy a well earned sense of satisfaction at having earnt a respite from the grim weather.
