Summer of Cycling on RCUK

Summer’s here (we hope!) and throughout June will be celebrating what we hope will be a summer of cycling.

Soaring temperatures (maybe) and longer evenings (certainly) will offer opportunities to get out on the bike that often seem blighted by the cold and dark of winter.

Packed racing and sportive calendars, and summer events like the Dunwich Dynamo and London IG Nocturne, offer a chance to make the most of the best season for activities involving two wheels.

The racing season is in full swing, and for riders considering competitive action for the first time, we’ll be bringing you tips from top coaches on four different disciplines: track, time trial, criterium, and road race.

You’ll need the right equipment for such an undertaking of course, and to that end we’ll be putting three racing bikes under the microscope: the Focus Cayo Evo Di2, Specialized’s Tarmac SL3, and the Scott Foil Team.

What to wear when the sun finally comes out? We’re celebrating a British summer by testing kit from three of the nation’s leading designers: Rapha, Shutt, and Velobici (an exclusive from the latter – a first ride of the Leicester firm’s new road wear collection).

Anyone inspired by the long evenings to hop on a bike and head for the coast will find much to consider in the Dunwich Dynamo.

This 200km night ride from central London to the Suffolk coast captures the bicycle’s possiblity to escape the city as well as any. We’ll be contemplating all aspects of the challenge: mechanical, physical, and spiritual.

The racing calendar moves into top gear, and we’ll be focusing on two races from the WorldTour, the Criterium du Dauphine, and the Tour of Switzerland, continuing our reports from the Halfords Tour Series, and taking an in depth look at the London IG Nocturne, a city centre criterium that brings international stars to the capital for the final time before the Olympics.

All in all, it looks like being a busy month on RCUK. Don’t forget to let us know what two wheeled adventures you have planned for summer in the forum and on our Facebook page.
