Micro saddle-adjustment

Ever get that feeling that your saddle has sunk overnight? But by an almost infinitely small amount? Which is, presumably, why you have a slight inkling rather than knowing for sure.

I get it from time to time. Five minutes into a ride, there’s that slight suggestion that the knees might like to be extended a little more at the bottom of the pedal stroke, that I’m somehow a little closer to the ground than I should be and, most infuriatingly, that I’m not getting as much force to the pedals as I expect.

Of course, whenever this happens I just hop off, whip out the multi tool and raise the saddle by 1mm. Amazingly, or perhaps not, the saddle now feels ridiculously high for the first 10 seconds or pedalling before feelling entirely natural for a while, until I start to get the suspicion that it is a millimetre or so too high and the whole process is repeated in reverse.

The – er – cycle repeats itself roughly every other month. Since the adjustment is so small, it could probably be ignored – probably should be ignored – but I just like that feeling of a perfectly-adjusted saddle too much to let it go.

Although, if it needs altering from time to time, it can’t be perfectly adjusted, can it?
