The Rob Jefferies Clog 2012

At the top of Steyning Bostal 2012

A dry, ice-free day – albeit with greasy roads in places, fast wheels and a great bunch of companions; this year’s Coastal Clog, which we renamed the Rob Jefferies Clog in memory of the man with whom I first conceived the route and who named Steyning Bostal “Stomping Hill”, was a cracking edition.

It was a select group comprising only those stern enough of resolve to get up on a cold morning for a fast Century ride that left Dorking. One of us, Nick Bourne of Pendragon Sports, drove up from the West Country to be there. Some five hours of riding and two of lunching later we got back having ridden at an average speed of somewhere around 18mph depending on whose Garmin was to be believed. If Simon’s, it was 18.5…

So that’s the first Century of the year done and dusted. Damn, my legs ache.
