Boardman 2009 range launched

Athlete’s Hour bike?

Olympic heroes training in background

Building on a successful debut season, Olympic and world champion Chris Boardman’s 2009 cycle collection was unveiled at the Manchester velodrome even as the all-conquering Team GB track squad warmed up for a training session.

The cboardman range has been reworked for 2009 with the introduction of two carbon fibre frames and a fixed-wheel/single speed urban-style bike. There is also a Nicole Cooke Limited Edition in recognition of her 2008 Olympic and worlds road race wins on a cboardman machine.

Top of the new pile is the PRO/Race Prepared, which features the ‘Gold Medal winning’ monocoque carbon frameset as used by Nicole Cooke. Its monocoque carbon fork has a 1.5” lower bearing race and weighs 350g with uncut steerer. SRAM’s RED groupset is partnered by Zipp 404 wheels and Vittoria Corsa CX rubber in a choice of clincher or tubular formats and price is £2999.99.

PRO/Race Prepared is top-end machine

The same frame and fork but using SRAM Force gearing, a SRAM S900 carbon fibre GXP chainset and Ultralight R740 brake calipers with Ritchey WCS finishing kit makes up the base model PRO, which will sell for £1499.99.

The TEAM/Carbon and TEAM/Alloy have carbon and aluminium framesets respectively along with the same SRAM Rival gearing, Lightweight R580 brake calipers, SRAM S300 GXP Compact chainset, Ritchey Pro Rims with sealed bearing hubs and Ritchey Comp finishing kit. Prices are £999.99 for the TEAM/Carbon and £799.99 for the TEAM/Alloy.

COMP SC single-speed

TEAM/Carbon is just £999.99

The Comp series comprises the £599.99 Comp with double-butted aluminium alloy frame, carbon fork with alloy steerer, Shimano Tiagra gearing, Tektro calipers and Truvativ chainset and the £449.99 Comp SC, which substitutes a single speed transmission and track rear ends but is otherwise to the same specification. This machine also has provision for mudguard fitment.

Each model will be offered in a choice of four frame sizes and the new cboardman range will be available in the UK through Halfords Bikehut stores.
