Tim Moore released his follow up to French Revolutions: Cycling the Tour de France earlier this year having tackled the ‘toughest Grand Tour ever ridden’.
Shattered wheels, broken arms, kidney failure and even lost eyes were features of the Corsa Rosa some 100 years ago, but that didn’t deter Moore from hand-building a period bike and tackling the very same route nearly a century on.
Gironimo! is Moore’s witty account of the challenge – a task he calls giving Lance Armstrong the finger – as he replicated a race which has an AVERAGE stage length of 396.25km.
Moore’s book encapsulates all that is revered about cycling – the heritage, the never-say-die attitude of the riders and the little successes we all celebrate along the way.
