Cycle Show – Carbon Corner

Zipp

Recently acquired by the rapidly-growing SRAM empire, Zipp had plenty of new bits to get excited about.

The VumaQuad, a carbon chainset based on Cannondale’s BB30 standard. Weight is a claimed 560g, with double and compact options, ceramic bearing option and arm lengths from 170 to 180mm.

Integrated carbon shifter bosses shed weight

Made from carbon, the Vuka brake levers weigh 100g a pair

1080 has a 108mm deep section rim. Available in tub or clincher versions

Wanting to go faster in time trials? When Zipp tested the Sub9 disc wheel, it recorded less drag than its other disc wheels

The new 202 wheelset uses a 32mm carbon rim for a complete weight of just 1,060g. Be aware that the rider weight limit is 185lbs and is tubular only.

Easton

Easton’s EC90 SLX road bar and the EC90 Track bar (claimed to be 15% stronger than traditional steel track bars)

One for fans of deep section wheels, the EC90’s use a 56mm tubular rim

We first saw these hoops being ridden by the Astana team, but they’ve now reached production. They compete directly with Zipp’s 202 wheelset, and feature a 24mm carbon tubular rim
