Cycliq Fly 12 front light and integrated video camera now available

Integrated 400 lumen light and HD camera on sale now for £249

Cycliq, the company behind the excellent Fly6 we reviewed last month, have launched the Fly12 – a front-facing version of the integrated light and action camera, which is available now.

The Cycliq Fly12, which comes off the back of a crowdfunding campaign last year, combines a 1080p HD camera with a 400 lumen light and, like the Fly6, is designed to sit inconspicuously on the bike in order to protect cyclists in the event of an incident.

The Fly12 has a range of settings, with the most powerful bright enough to safely negotiate unlit roads, according to Cycliq. Battery life is up to ten hours.

Video footage is recorded via microSD, with a 16GB card included as standard. The Fly12’s ‘Set and Forget’ feature ensures the camera records in a loop, so there’s no need to worry about running out of memory – it will just overwrite the oldest footage.

However, the Fly12’s ‘Incident Capture Technology’, also a feature on the Fly6, ensures footage is automatically saved in the event of an accident. Cycliq say the light can detect when you have been knocked off your bike and, if that’s the case, will make sure the most recent footage is saved.

The unit also has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and can be paired with the CycliqPlus app to access settings, and review and share footage. The app can also be paired with Strava to overlay data such as speed, power, heart rate and location on the final edit. Check out the video feature former pro Ted King to see footage from the Fly12. Anyone who buys a Fly12 will also receive three months free Strava Premium membership.

The final feature worth mentioning is the ‘Bike Alarm’, which, once armed via the smartphone app, will set off a loud alarm, start the light flashing and turn on the camera, while also alerting the owner through the app.

“The Fly12 is already in the hands of our Kickstarter backers after a second successful funding campaign, and we’re really excited now to be announcing worldwide stock availability this May,” said Cycliq’s Jeroen van Zon.

“Fly12 not only helps us share the joy of cycling with our friends with dynamic Strava overlays, but helps keep us as cyclists and our bikes safe.  Our rear-facing Fly6 camera has already been used successfully in a number of police and insurance cases involving cyclists and other road users.”

The Cycliq Fly12 costs £249 and is available now.
