We’re testing Italian clothing and machinery this month in homage to the Giro, a race still less than a week old that has already delivered buckets of excitement.
Here are two suitably stylish items from Dromarti, makers of traditionally-styled cycle shoes and gloves.
The shoes pictured here, hand made in Italy, are the Race model, which feature a leather upper and nylon sole drilled for a three-point, LOOK-friendly attachment.
Traditional features include holes, rather than mesh panels, for ventilation and a lace fastening in the stead of Velcro straps and buckles.
Their beautiful appearance will be apparent from the photographs, but we’re sadly unable to bring you the smell: a subtle, but rich tang of leather.
They come in eight sizes, from 40 to 47, in black or brown, and sell for £163.29.
We’re cheating slightly here, but Dromarti also sent through these rather stylish mitts, and it seemed a shame not to feature them.
Cheating, you say? Well, they’re handmade in England, not Italy, but the soft Nappa leather palm and crochet knitted backs would surely not offend even the most purist sect of the tifosi.
They come in four sizes from small to extra large, two colours (the Cognac pictured here, and black) and sell for £101.11.
We’ll be testing the shoes and the mitts in the weeks ahead, so check back for full reviews.
