Enigma Evade and Ecroix
Enigma Evade and Ecroix
British brand Enigma used the London Bike Show to launch two new frames: the Evade and the Ecroix.
First up, the Evade. Sussex-based Enigma have forged a formidable reputation building frames from titanium and the Evade is pitched as a ‘fast endurance bike’, made from 3AL-2.5 ti.
The sloping geometry reflects it’s position as an ‘endurance’ machine, with an emphasis on all-day comfort, but Enigma say the Evade is designed to still offer plenty in the performance stakes. There’s a 44mm headtube for starters, which will accept a tapered fork steerer (as well as a traditional straight-through fork steerer) and the oversized downtube also has a 44mm diameter.
The frame is available in five off-the-peg sizes from 53cm to 59cm, while Enigma also offer a full custom build option. The stock frame will set you back £1,399, with complete bikes from £2,399. Of course, the frame is available in a ‘naked’ titanium finish, but the chassis pictured above is an example of one of the many options available through the Enigma Paint Works.
Meanwhile, the Ecroix is an adventure/gravel bike. That’s part of the bike market which is growing fairly quickly, with a number of major manufacturers, including Specialized with the Diverge and Giant with the Anyroad, throwing their hat into the ring with ‘go anywhere’ machines.
“With competition-ready geometry, race-proven features and an array of features, the Ecroix is ready for cyclocross and gravel racing, and is more than capable for your daily commute or light tour,” say Enigma.
Versatility is key to a bike like this and the Ecroix, made from 3AL-2.5V titanium, has full mudguard and rack mounts. Other features include cable guides on the toptube for ‘snag-free shouldering’ in a cyclocross race or to get over an obstacle, and stacks of mud clearance.
The frame is disc-specific and, like the Evade, has an oversized 44mm headtube and downtube. The frame will set you back £1,299 and the frameset (frame, carbon fibre fork and headset) is yours for £1,550.
