Filippo Pozzato’s new ride for the rest of the race |
While it is a little unusual to launch a bike during the Tour, this hasn’t stopped Cannondale from gifting Liquagas fast man Filippo Pozzato with a newly decorated SuperSix.
But there’s more behind the paintjob than just being a celebration of Pozzato’s win on stage 5. Called ‘Feel the Green’, it’s the latest step in a move for bike companies and the pro race caravan to become environmentally conscious, aiming to “…create awareness of the bicycle’s role in efficient and environmentally-friendly travel.”
Cannondale has made significant investments in the area of material management and disposal in their manufacture of bikes, and the ‘Feel the Green’ statement is intended to reflect this part of the company philosophy.
Made and assembled in Cannondale’s Bedford, Pennsylvania factory, the bicycle will be raced by Pozzato at this year’s Tour and then auctioned off to the highest bidder, with proceeds going to a bicycle advocacy group.
“I enjoy working with Cannondale because they really listen to us riders not only for technical ideas, but also when it comes to creating beautiful-looking bikes and doing things differently like communicating important things through cycling and sponsorship. We are cycling through some of the most beautiful places in the world and wish them to stay as such,” commented Pozzato after receiving his new Super Six.
