Here’s an early look at a product we’ll be testing on RCUK in the months ahead.
Shimano subsidiary, PRO, a brand making wheels, finishing kit, lights, tools and accessories, has introduced a new range of customisable saddles.
PRO say saddle choice should be matched to riding style and offer three types, based on claims to have measured the sit bones of a million riders.
The Falcon saddle has a flat base for riders the brand describes as ‘flyers’ who it characterises as maintaining a stable position in the saddle.
Contrast that with riders the brand classifies as ‘workers’ and whose pedaling style they say generates a lot of movement. PRO say the rounded, Griffon saddle is most suited to such riders.
The intermediate Turnix saddle has a gentle curve and offers a degree of movement somewhere between the Falcon and the Grifffon; suitable, say PRO, for riders with a neutral pedaling style.
Having identified the saddle type, an online saddle selector requires the rider to enter their degree of flexibility and sit bone width (which can be measured from the indents left on the PRO Cube at dealers) before selecting rail type (carbon or titanium), and colour (black, black and white, or red and white).
An image of your chosen saddle is generated together with the weight (205 grams for saddle with ti rails; 155 grams with carbon rails).
We’ll be placing our posteriors on the Pro Cube at Eurobike next week and testing the saddles from September.
