Rapha have launched their Pro Team range for 2011, with a new jersey and bib shorts the highlights of the collection.
The legend of Henri Pelissier – described by a journalist as a Forçat de la Route, or convict of the road -has inspired the jersey and bib shorts, which have been designed to meet the demands of elite road racing.
Both the jersey (available in black or cream, XS-XXL, £120) and shorts (black only, XS-XXL, £155) feature a black and white stripe ‘convict’ motif, are lightweight and cut for a road racer’s body shape and aggressive position on the bike.
They are made from a high-wicking, stretch fabric from Switzerland that is exclusive to Rapha and incorporates Coldblack® technology, so even the black material stays cool against the skin in hot weather and provides UV protection. Bonded seams prevent rubbing and the panels are combined with mesh sections for a close but comfortable fit on the drops.
The Pro Team bib shorts have a reinforced seat panel and use an anatomic Cytech pad which has been chosen for the maximum range of movement, whether spinning up a col or chasing down a breakaway. It is also positioned further forward to aid a more aggressive bike position.
Now redundant race radio pockets sit either side of the spine for comfort and a multi-panel construction ensures optimum fit. Mesh panels on the side and rear of the jersey give additional breathability, while the jersey and shorts include a label with space for the racer’s name to keep the garments organised when being washed after races.
The Pro Team jersey has an additional story label, which reads: “From the team car, an order comes like the lash: ‘Raise the tempo at the front.’ We cannot give in. We are chained together, destined to race forever.”
Both the jersey and bib shorts are also available with the same specification but Rapha Condor Sharp team colours and logos. The items complement the existing Rapha Pro Team mitts socks to complete the spring/summer collection.
