OK; it’s taken a while, but RCUK’s competition to win a Trek Madone Project One bike has reached its conclusion with the handing over yesterday of the finished machine to competition winner Roger Todd or, more precisely, to his wife, Tabitha Rendall, to whom he gave his prize.
Although the result was announced in March, demand for Project One bikes in 2010 has been so high that Trek has only recently been able to complete the bike. As a result, the frame and fork have been upgraded to 2011 Madone 6.7 specification and the graphics of the chosen Bontrager Aeolus wheels replaced by the current design. Otherwise, the bike is as designed by Roger, with Shimano Ultegra groupset, Bontrager RXL finishing kit and bright yellow control cable outers to match the nude carbon and pale blue of the frame and fork.
Both Tabitha and Roger ride for Team Larkfield Cycles and the Madone was therefore handed over at the premises of team sponsors Larkfield Cycles in Larkfield, near Maidstone in Kent. Tabitha, a former triathlete thinking right now about cyclo-cross, was not sure how soon she hoped to get out on her new steed but, with bright sunshine and clear skies bathing Larkfield, it may well have done a few miles by now.
RCUK and Trek wish her the best of luck with her new Madone.
